Some new medications for diabetes have some side effects which would
appear to make them questionable for use in any diabetics.... and
according to whistle blowers, the manufacturing pharmaceutical firms have
been either leaving these side effects (including kidney damage) out of
their ads completely, or greatly understating... The following was taken
from an article in the news:
"In fact 'low blood pressure is a major side effect” for two drugs (Farxiga
and Invokana), adding in a statement 'other side effects of the five drugs
include urinary tract infections, yeast infections (Farxiga, Jardiance and
Invokana), bladder cancer (Farxiga), pancreatitis, thyroid C-cell tumors (Victoza
and Bydureon) and kidney failure (all five drugs).' "
I researched Farxiga, one of the new medications, to see exactly what the
action of this drug was. To begin with, it was really hard to figure out
just WHAT this drug is and exactly how it works except that it somehow
removes extra sugar from the kidneys (?).
From drugs.com, I learned that there is a rather distressly long list of
gnarly side effects with Farixa, including; Anxiety, bladder
pain, bloody or cloudy urine, blurred vision. chills, cold sweats, coma,
confusion, cool, pale skin, decreased frequency or amount of urine,
depression, difficult, burning, or painful urination, dizziness, fast
heartbeat, frequent urge to urinate, headache, increased hunger, increased
thirst, itching of the vagina or genitals, loss of appetite, lower back or
side pain, nausea, nightmares, seizures, shakiness, slurred speech,
swelling of the face, fingers, or lower legs, thick, white vaginal
discharge with mild or no odor, troubled breathing, unusual tiredness or
weakness, vomiting and weight gain.
Also two other groups of drugs may negatively, interact with Farxiga -
including diuretics and other oral diabetes meds, most of which many
diabetics are taking...
These drugs can cause yeast infections of the urinary organs also... as
well as dehydration...
Bottom line, you might want to consider passing up the new meds and stick
with the safe and effective, metformin and glypozide which, together with diet and exercise work well
to keep blood sugar levels down.
